And I think it's going to stay that way.
I have just been, honestly, disgusted by the amount of time I spend in front of a screen throughout the day. Worse than that, probably 65% of that time was spent on pinterest or facebook. Agh.
There are so many things I could do and SHOULD be doing with my time and I was wasting it every day. I don't really need updated on their relationship status or the "newest" way to make soap (I say "newest" because people have been making soap for hundreds of yrs. It's not such a new thing).
I need to be spending face time with my husband and others, reading, finishing tasks, walking, creating my OWN creations, doing home work, studying, anything. I need to be living! Not watching.
I just didn't have enough self control when I had access to all those resources. I (and I'm so ashamed) would sit for HOURS just surfing. Just seeing what had been posted. Agh. Agh! Yuck! Just sitting there! Bible study ignored, husband ignored, dishes piling up, laundry undone, homework ignored, on and on.......
Also, deep down, I really don't like pinterest for a list of reasons
- Constant opportunity for comparison (can be such a downer)
- time zapping
- keeps people from being creative on their own (I respect the sharing of ideas but it seems more like ideas are just being copied)
- no originality
And facebook, I'm not even going there. No sir-eee.
Well, not anymore (shouts victoriously)! I have my time back and I'm going to use it better than I have been.
I am going to keep my blog (though I seriously considered ending it.) I think it's a good creative outlet for me and I don't spend that much time here. I just jot out my thoughts, and some pics, and it's good. It's a positive thing I've got going.
Also I'm going to keep using stumbleupon. I get tired of that easily, so I don't have to worry about spending too much time there either.
I'm also keeping picnik (even though it's closing soon D :). It's an awesome tool. I'm not looking forward to finding something else.
So, that's that.
Here's to life, yo
I'm going to go do something in real life.......
Whoh... good for you Kensie! I love your honest, throw it all out there posts, it is really inspiring! I so often fall into the social networking trap, it takes so much will power to take breaks. Have you ever noticed though, if you go a week without fb how all of the sudden the urge to check it every few hours starts to diminish? I have been taking a break myself, but can't bring myself to get rid of it altogether.
ReplyDeleteI never see ANYWONE! Really. I probably get together with someone other than my family once a month. Sometimes during "busy" months I might get together with friends 3 times in a month, but I have gone almost three months without any outside interaction from a friend...... fb is is an outlet but it's a dangerous time waster as well.
I can't wait to see what you continue to come up with in the real world of art!
