This weekend I've been thinking about changing some of my home decor. Especially in our living room and bedroom. Adam has given me A LOT of freedom in the decorating and arranging of our space. Honestly, I love our home and he says he always feels comfortable. But lately I've been noticing just how feminine it is. I love bright colors and a lot of white. That's not necessarily feminine but there isn't really much to say, "Hey, a man lives here too." So, I think if I can just add some masculine elements to balance out the feminine, well that would just be perfect. Of course, whatever I add needs to cost next to nothing. :)
So the above elements are what I'm thinking. FYI: I am loving navy lately.
This picture is my ultimate inspiration for our home.
It's just an rich mixture of femininity and masculinity.
The color palette is both familiar and unusual.
- Navy blue curtains seem like the simplest, most straight forward way to add a masculine touch.
- A chunky, dark colored throw
- I would do this in a different color (navy or charcoal) color, but this DIY project would be a good update for a lampshade or two.
- A striped area rug would be great in the living room. This would definitely be a DIY project if I could just find the right rug (read: cheap, flat woven, and large)
- Non-feminine pillow(s)
- Art with a geometric feel. Abstract art is my favorite. So I'm sure I could come up with something.
