The other day my mother-in-law, Monique', and I were talking about being a wife and homekeeping. She first remembered one book I might like to read ( um yes!) and that list kinda grew.
Woo hoo!
This book is by Donna Otto who has a daily pod caste. She discusses not only
caring for your physical home but also the emotional, mental,
and spiritual needs of your husband and family.
Pretty straight forward
I love that organized objects just look so pretty!
And this one, this is a gem. Th Frugal Housewife is a
homekeeping manual for the thrifty written in 1833. Yup, 1833.
It describes tips I can't even begin to imagine such as:
- "Boiled potatoes are said to cleanse hands as well as common soap; they prevent chops in the winter season, and keep the skin soft and healthy".
- "Eggs will keep almost any length of time in lime water...I have seen eggs, thus kept, perfectly sweet and fresh at the end of three years."
- "If you have a strip of land, do not throw away suds. both ashes and suds are good manure for bushes and young plants
This is just a novel. I haven't cracked it yet.
And this one is one I recently ordered online.
It was written in 1987 by a woman who recognized that
wanting to be a homemaker would get her ostracized.
She was a successful, single career woman but truly loved making a home.
